About Tim
Tim Leeper is the founder of Kylan’s Light, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing awareness, accountability, and reform to the Tennessee prison system. His work began after the death of his 25-year-old son, Kylan Leeper, who died in October 2023 while incarcerated in Tennessee’s largest prison.
After Kylan’s death, Tim began speaking out, meeting with legislators, and working with families, advocates, and community leaders to bring attention to the conditions, lack of oversight, and systemic issues within the prison system. What began as a father seeking answers has grown into a mission to ensure that no family goes unheard and that dignity, rehabilitation, and reentry become part of the conversation around incarceration.
Through Kylan’s Light, Tim advocates for transparency, accountability, and meaningful reform, while also creating space for families and individuals to share their stories and experiences. He regularly speaks to churches, community groups, universities, and organizations to raise awareness about the human impact of incarceration and the importance of advocacy and community involvement.
Tim’s mission is simple: to shine a light on a system that often goes unseen, and to work toward a system that focuses not just on punishment, but on rehabilitation, accountability, and second chances.
