Our Mission for Tennessee Prison Reform
A commitment to dignity, accountability, and reform
Tim Leeper’s son, Kylan Leeper, died in October 2023 while incarcerated in Tennessee’s largest prison. Kylan had just turned 25 years old.
Since Kylan’s death, Tim has made it his mission to shine “Kylan’s Light” on the broken Tennessee prison system — both public and private.
Currently, the Tennessee corrections system does not address the root causes of incarceration. Instead, it focuses on a “command and control” warehousing prison policy. This results in an endless cycle of victims and recidivism.
Prisons are not designed for rehabilitation.
Our goal is to help reimagine the corrections system with a focus on reflection, healing, personal growth, and transformation.
Raising awareness and engaging with leaders to support policy change and accountability.
Creating space for families to be heard, informed, and connected to resources.
Promoting systems that prioritize rehabilitation, safety, and successful reentry into society.
Too many individuals and families navigate a system without clear answers, support, or accountability.
Kylan’s Light exists to ensure those experiences are not overlooked and that meaningful change continues to move forward.
